IU Judo Kicked all kinds of ass in the St Louis Judo Tournoment! I sucessfully made weight, I had to cut 5 pounds the night before. I placed 2nd in my division and the guy who beat me beat a black belt in open division and gave my coach a nidan a hard time. I got to fight my coach Neil Coker in the first match of open division and he beat me in 8 seconds witha sweet tai O toshi. Neil went on to win the open division! There wasnt to many black belts at the tournoment so they combined all the black belts weight divisions together and some of the heaveir brown belts. Neil had to fight a 335lbs guy and he is 185, he lost that only becuase he got a shido, which is a penalty. My other coach Daisuke Hirata who I think is a Sandan got 2nd in that division. We also got 2nd place in 150lbs advanced, and 175lbs novice. We got 1st in 185 novice. And they split the women into two groups heavy and light, and we placed 2nd and 3rd in light, the girl who got first I guess is a Pan American medal winner, and we only had white and yellow belts fighting her. So we did pretty good, someoen placed in every division we had people fighting in! IU Judo walked away with more tropies than any other club! It was a good time, Oh yeah I ate at jack in the box for the first time which was great! Next tourny is in 3 weeks in Chicago I think, so I'm busy training for that right now. But I will be home on the 10th for about a week for spring break, hope to see you all in jujutsu!

That's awesome. It sounds like it was a fun tournament! Congrats on your placement...
I'm trying to get into a BJJ tournament sometime this march in IL. When I find out the details, I'll post them.
Jack in the Box rocks. Now you just need to do some west coast events and eat some In-and-Out burgers...

Yeah, still working with both places, though more so with Pat lately. The Judo school is called the Judo-Jujitsu Institute. Ask around, although I still haven't met most of the players there... They'll remember me as the BJJ guy (believe it or not) with the atrocious blue gi...

it's just so blue your eyes hurt, and its got all that embroidery on it that judo guys love to rag on. Everytime I go to class, someone has to say "that gi wouldn't be legal in a judo tournament". So what if I look a little like a stock car? Machado/Lutador Americano makes Judo gis, and their bjj pants are reinforced all to hell. I love my set.

I wanna be in judo and bjj! stupid job! sigh, good job though carl. speaking of gis, is there any reason why they only come in black, white, and blue? I really want a green one but I can't seem to find anyone who makes em.

I think a couple BJJ gis come in green or camo, but those colors are non-traditional. A lot of purists will scoff at anything that's not white. Even blue is a pretty new color to see on gis, and its usually confined to judo/bjj, due to their competition rules. I once saw a Judo instructor complain harshly to a mom for buying her kid a black gi. Then again, this was in LA, so I'm surprised she didn't send him to class with a sword and ninja smoke bombs. Anyway, here's koral's army green gi. Its expensive, but the last gi you'll ever need to buy. Just beware, patches are kinda like talking smack. You should be able to back it up a little. www.graciemagshop.com/produto_detalhe.asp?qiNuProduto=99
