Orange Belt (Shichikyu)
General Requirements
1. You must have attended a minimum of 15 class sessions before you can test for your first belt. 2. You must know the three areas of the body in Japanese: jodan (the head area), chudan, (the midsection), and gedan (below the midsection.).) 3. Be able to explain the eight points of balance and discuss why these are important for practicing throwing techniques.
Technique Demonstration
I. Kicking Techniques (keri waza)
1. Fumi komi (stomp kick) 2. Yoko geri keage (side snap kick) 3. Mawashi geri (roundhouse kick)
II. Striking Techniques (atemi waza)
1. Gyaku tsuki (reverse punch) 2. tetsui tuski (hammer fist) 3. Empi tsuki (elbow strike)
III. Blocking Techniques (uke waza)
1. Morote uke (two arm block) 2. Juji uke (cross block) 3. Soto uke (outside forearm block)
IV. Ukemi Waza (falling techniques) 1. Ushiro ukemi (backward fall) 2. Yoko ukemi (side fall) 3. Mae sutemi waza (forward rolls) 4. Mae ukemi (forward fall)
V. Nage Waza (throwing techniques)
1. O soto gari (major outer reap) 2. Morote gari (two handed reap)
V. Self-defense You will need to know two counters for the following attacks:
1. Same side wrist grab 2. Backfist to the head 3. Strike to the top of the head
