I discovered this on accident today while lifting(lifting for the first time in many many months), and I found it to be awesome cuz it trains your grip and works your entire forearm, both sides. Which as far as I understand is beneficial for kuzushi-ing in Judo....
Anyways, I did it with a 25 lb dumbbell, but I suppose you could get the same effect from something like a broomhandle because of leverage. Pretty much all you do is sit down, set your elbow on your thigh(I put my free hand under my elbow for comfort), your palm facing your face. Hold the dumbbell/whatever in your upright hand and pretty much just jerk it side to side as fast as possible(not back and forth like a backfist). Or slowly if you have heavier weights, whatever is more comfortable. The bar will try to teeter out of your hand, so that works your fingers holding it in place, and the side to side motion gets both sides of the forearm.

Aye, that would indeed be more efficient.

another good grip workout is ripping up that indoor outdoor carpet that is glued to concrete with your bare hands. It makes your hands so sore from gripping!!!
