Well my I couldn't get my damn video camrea to work so I dont have any video for you, which is too bad cause tehre were some sweet throws during this competition.
I did much better than I expected to do. I placed 2nd in the advanced division 198 pounders. The only people able to throw me was Aaron Cohen who is ranked #2 in the nation in 81kg and my coach who was recently ranked #20 in 90kg. The other 2 people I fought I defeated pretty easily, I wasn't even expecting to place going into this tournament. I I would have gotten 3rd but Aaron Cohen had to withdraw due to a tearing a groin muscle.
I got the lucky draw of fighting Cohen for my first fight, his grips were super strong and it was really hard for me to get a good grip on him. I tried for a kouchi makikomi but failed and he ended up throwing me with a huge tsuri komi goshi.
Luckily the tournoment was double elimination so my 2nd fight I fought a black belt, dont remember his name though. I tried to go in for a O uchi gari and then a harai goshi but failed. Then he attacked me with a real weak uchi mata and I countered by sweeping his reaping foot and driving him to the mat for Ippon. All my matches were pretty short, this one lasted maybe a minute and a half, and the one with Aaron Cohen was maybe my longest lasting around 2 minutes. Mostly because I think he was just feeling me out
My 3rd fight was against another black belt who lost to Cohen. I watched his fight against Cohen pretty carefully and his attacks didnt look very strong. As soon as the match started I reached for a high collar grip and got it with almost no resistance so I yanked him down and got a tight over the back grip on his belt came in and threw him with a near perfect harai goshi, I wish i had viedo of it it felt awesome. That match maybe took 15 seconds.
My 4th match was for gold or sivler, my coach had won all his matches and since I was in the loosers bracket I would have to beat him twice to get gold. I knew I didnt standa chance with him on the feet so my plan was to do a simple trip and try to just bring it to the ground wear I can at least hang with him. I tried my trip and went to my knees, then I made the big mistake of standing up and when i did he came under me for a morote seionage and floored me for ippon.
But I got 2nd and am really happy with how I felt at 198, this tournament has been a real confidence booster for me so I think it will improve my attacks as I often hesitate to fully comitt, but when i committed with my harai goshi it felt like one of the best throws ive ever thrown.
