I'm sure you'd do fairly well in the white-belt or whatever division, I really wanted to go too but I found out too late, I ain't got 75 bucks set aside. that and deadline is today. It'd be fun to just go and see how I'd do against all those straight up bjj guys. I've seen some video clips of naga stuff, and like...I dunno I have a feeling I could beat a lot of them. This could also be from my bolstered ego, having tapped carl on tuesday, haha .

I just registered. I'm going in novice division because there's no ankle locks. I'm excited! This should be fun times.
Thanks for the heads up. You should register too so we can chill out at the event and root for each other.

Mike, are you going to class any time this week? I was wondering if I could get some of those Gracie videos you downloaded on dvd or cd before the weekend.

well my friend at work is in pat robinson's bjj class, he says that you can sign up at the door for the NAGA tourney...sooo maybe I can go after all! anyways I should be there tuesday and thursday, if I don't pass out after work again. let me know which vids you want, I've got em all except intermediate 3, which is offense/defense from side mount.
basics 1 - close the gap, escape mount basics 2 - pass the gaurd, escape headlock basics 3 - armlocks and chokes basics bonus - stand-up aggression intermediate 1 - front & rear mounted attacks intermediate 2 - attacks & reversals from the gaurd intermediate bonus - royce's ufc finishers advanced 1 - front & rear mount defense (good one) advanced 2 - foot locks offense & defense advanced 3 - standing finishers, combat strategy (another good vid, I've pulled off a few of these moves on you and carl before) advanced bonus - interview with Helio "key to the gracie system" - it's got helio looking like a zombie doing slow jujitsu moves on rorion's kids
each vid ranges from 300mb to 600mb, so it'll probably limited to one movie per disk.

So, Mike's going to NAGA. You going, Carl? I figure we should meet at 10, get there at 11, weigh in and all that, to be ready for our divisions (somewhere between lunch and afternoon).
I've got directions.... I was thinking we can meet at the Burger King on Indian Boundary in Chesterton, if everyone knows where that is.

that burger king is pretty close to my house, so yeah I'll be there tomorrow at 10. guess we can figure out driving arrangements and such at the time, I'll even clean out my car just in case I end up driving(you don't know me well enough to know that me cleaning out my car is a rare thing haha). I hope one of us wins a red katana, that would kick ass.

Well, NAGA was fun and great experience. I was beat in my first match by one point. The bjj guy pulled guard (surprise!) and we stayed there for the full 4 minutes. I had a choke I was working on, and the guy slipped on an armbar (still while on bottom) that took me too long to get out of, and he was awarded an advantage point. In the end I had him stacked and was actually passing guard to go to side control when they called time. If I had made it to side control I would have won the fight on points.
Still, 4 minutes is too short. Barely enough time to do anything besides get into a scrambling match for points.
By the way, the guy who beat me won the whole bracket, beat everybody, so I guess I can't feel to bad about it. Too bad I didn't get to fight a bit more though. That match was over quick.
I would definitely do this again, with more respect for the level of competition the next time around. (I'd also first find away to stop little girly-men from just jumping on me and not letting go. I think the trick is in the grips....)
