Hey man don't forget I'm going for that orange belt too, so I'm thinkin' we'd make ideal practice partners with some sensei mediation after class and what have you.
I was thinking too, about the belts being decoration, like I REALLY want to get the belt mostly so I can say that I have a belt that isn't yellow or white to people. Makes me look accomplished to others. Not that it entirely matters when it comes down to the nitty gritty who's got what belt in what style, but it never hurts to look a bit more esteemed in the eyes of others.

Yeah, belts have there good sides to, but most of the time I wish we could just do away with them. They mostly help the teacher keep track of a studnets progress, and are good for matching up skill levels in tournoments or competition. However with the small size of the YMCA classes and the fact that we dont do competition, I dont really think they are needed. Im not saying that I wont help you get your belts, nor do I can if your motivation is to earn belts, because as long as something motivates you to do martial arts and to excel at them than that is all that really matters. Im just stating my opinion about belts. And yes its much easier to work towards your belt with someone else helping you. I know I miss all the training partners that Ive had along the way that have pushed and helped me.

I hope to be back this Thursday. I know I've been gone, but I too, want to work toward my Orange Belt. Given the length of time I have practiced Jujitsu, I think it wouldn't take me too long to polish off the rust. I know that martial arts isn't about the belt. It is much more than the belt. However, I must admit that I am embarassed to wear white for too much longer. Especially since I haven't worn it in years. Your belt does indicate to others, some form of acheivement. It is a statement of some confidence in your abilities, by your Sensei. It has been difficult for me, having some physical problems in the past 2 years, which have limited my ability to perform some techniques with the ability which I once had. However, as a serious student, if my classmates and Sensei are open to me adapting, overcoming, and improvising to the best of my capability, then I shall continue to persevere. JuJitsu has been my life for 4 years, and hopefully for many years to come. I appreciate the patience and understanding which Elder-Sensei has shown me since I joined his dojo.

Where you live, Mike? I'm having a hard time making it to class nowadays, but maybe we can do a little out-of-dojo brush up when that orange belt test is getting nearer. You know, most of the time, I just never gave a ____ about the belts. I'm usually just like, "I just want to learn how to utterly destroy someone (gently of course, this is Jujutsu.... ) I would bet some people who study MA could be accused of being "belt-climbers" or "certifica-holics". I see a bunch of these same people in design, submitting every damn thing they do to competitions and awards ceremonies to build up their fireplace mantle with little glass trophies. I have to agree with Mike though. I'd rather be anything but a white belt at this point. Lets get a little color on this uniform that isn't screaming ROOKIE.

That sounds like an excellent idea, heck I don't even have anybody willing to play dummy and let me practice on them! Anyways, I live in Chesterton, you can email me at gman8311@hotmail.com, drop me a line and we can get together at my place, your place, a park, the circus, on a rooftop, the back of a semi, ya know, where ever hahaha, and waza no renshuu our way to perfection.

Watashi no uchi wa Porter no naka ni, Indiana Dunes no yoko ni arimasu. Chesterton no soto ni arimasu. Jujutsu no Waza o Takusan Renshuu Shimashou Ne!
(I probably butchered that. I'll email you.)

I managed to decipher it, heheh. If I don't reply to your email then I probably accidently deleted it as I regularly have to delete at least 30 emails a day from people promising to give me no interest loans while enlarging my penis during my free online casino trial with a desperate housewife on her webcam so we can win that free cruise to Jamaica on the ship made out of Xbox 360's and Ipods.
I'll keep an eye out for ya though.

I'm available any regular class day to test for my belt...so pretty much whatever works for everyone else works for me, if there was already a set day I didn't know. Besides that, I have to take a little jujitsu hiatus, I've got pretty consistent daily pain in both my wrists(from bad falling habits), and somehow last night I got a small bruise on my neck right on my jugular...kinda freaked me out, but I'm still here..haha..going to the doctor for all this mess anyways. So until I heal up completely I'm gonna be avoiding falls, wristlocks, and chokes, all of which are a daily part of my jutjitsu curriculum .

Yeah, I got a sprained ankle right now.... Nothing too serious though. The limp is dissappearing quickly, but I'm going to be very careful for a few months to be sure.

i got an ankle brace, and i was working on some foot work yesterday in it. Ive been workin pretty hard at therapy-type exercises, so its healing well. I might be a little slower with the movement, but If you think the testers might cut me a little slack on the Mawashi Geri and Yoko Geri Kiage (porkchop instead of blue pad at least) then I should be fine.
