Yeah, im sure they will cut you some slack, but its not a big deal to postpone it a week or two so you dont re-injure it.

You know what. I'm going to have to push it back 2 weeks (the test). I was working on footwork and starting to bear anothers weight, to test out Osotos and Morotes and Ippon Seois. It aint gonna happen. There's too much jostling around when you add another person to the equation.
I think I'm being stubborn by wanting to take the test this week. I should be more careful, so I can keep doing this later on.
Sorry about this. Mike, you can go ahead and take the test this Thursday without me. I can fit it in some other time.
BTW Mike, that was a sweet throw the last time we sparred. You caught me bouncing and threw that sacrifice throw, and I was helpless. Nice job.

Thanks Dan, I appreciate the feedback...I'm mostly glad cuz that one throw proved to myself that I am improving, physically and mentally. Overcoming those confidence issues. I'm impressed at how good you are at this stuff too comared to me, given that you've not been training that much longer than me.
Anyways, Carl, my doctor said that my wrist is supposed to be kept in a splint for a few weeks. So I guess I have to postpone the test too..damn how's that for irony? haha....like dan said I hope that's no problem with people's scheduling and stuff.

Do you own any manuals on the throws? I used to read the crapola out of Best Judo (an older book but awesome) and a lot of my previous knowledge was stuff out of that. I've also looked up European gripping strategies and newer throws, as well as viewed the living poopy out of competition footage. Just ask my girlfriend. Im obsessed with slowing down video and watching .5 seconds worth of action over and over again. Shes sick of me sitting at my computer all weekend.

Yeah, I kinda thought it would be a good idea to postpone, epscially after hearing your ankle is sprained. Its never good to try to workout on an injury especially a test since most people tend to push themselves a little harder when testing. Its best to rest let the injury heal, training at least at normal pace with a major or semi-major injury only makes the healing process take longer whihc means its longer before you can train at full force again. Im sure it wont be a problem for anyones schedule.

I've got the book kodokan judo, I've browsed through it a bit, and I've watched my fair share of judo and grappling videos. Actually most of what I do in our sparring stuff is just things I've picked up from videos and try them until they work in class, and carl's helped me quite a bit with understanding moves as well.
As far as fighting/sparring/grappling/randori goes, the way my brain works, before I took this class it was probably the equivalent to slamming my head underwater and saying "NOW BREATHE!". I have nary an aggressive bone in my body. That goes with the confidence thing too, I'm sure there's a number of times I just gave up on a choke or whatever just cuz I thought "oh darn it must not be working, I suck", when in reality if I'd of held on it would've worked.
I've done that too, replaying the half second of footage to see how everything was done, where the balance was broke, how he fit in, or in grappling what each guy did to end up where they were.
Perhaps you're just plain ol' talented, eh?

I'm getting better. I'm going to try some footwork again tonight, but I might be able to take the test next week. I've been able to put more weight on it, do some mild jumping, etc. I wont be sparring for a while, but some controlled kata/movements should be alright. I don't even know how newaza would work, but I would guess it's better than standing work.

I've kept my left wrist in a splint, my right wrapped up good. So far, so good. I'm nearly completely free of pain, and if there is any its so slight that it might as well not even be there. I think I'ma keep em wrapped a few more days, do some exercises on em for a few days, then give class a try on tuesday. I'm pretty confident that I'll be ready to go...just gotta start practicing again, I've been a lazy bum.
